NYFW RECAP
Going to NYFW this year was amazing! We've gone several times in the past to work behind the scenes, but attending it to cover on our social channels and here on the blog was an entirely different experience. Even through the long cold days and hectic scheduling we still had the best time. We loved seeing the new clothes, meeting the designers, visiting the showrooms, seeing old friends and making new ones. Here's the rundown.
We stayed in Midtown NYC at the W Hotel. From there we were able to easily get everywhere we needed to go via an Uber down Lexington or by hopping on the subway. The hotel's central location gave us quick access to some of our favorite restaurants and site seeing. I loved our spacious suite and the WHATEVER/WHENEVER® service, that helps you get your hands on just about anything you want while you're staying at the hotel.
Each morning we took advantage of room service to stay on time, then it was out into the city! We relied on UberBLACK for the entire trip, check out the video above for a better view of our adventures. With wait times at less than two minutes we were able to order rides right when we needed them. A huge thank you to Uber for sponsoring us on this trip!
One of our first rides took us to two of our favorite showroom visits, shown below wearing Maison Labiche. LUSH Network's pop-up in Soho and Galore Groupe's in Greenwich Village both showcased some of our favorite brands. With everything from Champion's latest collab with CASBIA to C2H2 to incredible Brooklyn artist, Jeremyville, we were overwhelmed with all the pieces we wanted to wear.
The shows didn't disappoint either! While they can be quite chaotic with the crowds, it's ALWAYS worth it to experience a proper show. Favorites from this season were Tom Ford, Carlos Campos and Grungy Gentlemen (shown below) respectively. Each brand shared completely unique and beautiful designs with their own aesthetic clearly represented. However, there was one thing they all had in common, flawless fits.
A major highlight for the trip was sitting down with Carlos Campos (some of our favorite pieces are shown below). He is many things to the brand that bears his name, founder, designer, seamster...he is a one man show. Although he has a highly skilled staff, he personally designs, crafts and even sews each garment that ends up walking his runway. MIND BLOWN. He is such an inspiring figure, draped in his own designs he articulately shared his background, his brand and his unrivaled work ethic. To see someone with such respect for their own craft was truly incredible. Looking at his designs now, the flawless tailoring wrapped entirely in blue and white, it's a reflection of his perspective. I wanted every single piece. I have never put on such high quality menswear that had no need for alterations.
We also made sure to set time aside to eat at our favorite places and see some of our favorite people! We got to shoot with our favorite photographer in NYC, Hagop Kalaidjian on a rooftop in the village! Thank you again Hagop, love you!! And if you follow us on Instagram you know that we LOVE to eat, especially carbs. That went into high gear this trip with us visiting Scarpetta's new location on Madison twice and making our mandatory stop to Lombardi's Pizza in Little Italy. If you haven't been to either PLEASE GO! These are our favorite spots in the city.
The absolute BEST part of the trip was hosting a party at KOIO's Soho store on Lafayette to announce the launch of my first design collaboration (I am wearing them in the first pic below). We had a great turnout and we want to thank everyone who came out to support us. We are really looking forward to the official launch party in April here in Scottsdale. Stay tuned for more!
It's always bittersweet to leave the city, but I know we will be back soon! Check back soon for our Guide to NYFW -- we are going to share everything we learned that will help set you up for a successful fashion week!
